Dr. ishmael Bruce

The author has always been connected with Ghanaian communities all throughout Canada. Initially based in the prairies [Manitoba and Saskatchewan], Dr. Bruce, together with some very dedicated Ghanaian-Canadians across the country, was one of the pioneers who helped bring together and give shape to the Ghanaian-Canadian community as we know it today. He was one of the first members of the National Council of Ghanaian-Canadians (NCGC) in the '80s and the third editor of the Council's newsletter, the 'Interaction'.

The author is and has been a staunch and faithful ambassador of Ghana and of Africa and has worked with others, as far back as the late 1960's to put Ghana on the Canadian multicultural map.

As a specialist in Dental Public Health, Dr. Ishmael Bruce has extensive experience in developing dental services in rural, underserved communities. He has taught both at the Dental School of Korle-Bu, Ghana, West Africa and the University of Manitoba, Canada, where he helped run the dental outreach programs in both Universities. ​
The author is a public health dentist who actively provides both clinical treatment services and promotes community preventive programs. His interests are especially in treating and undertaking research projects and studying the prevalence of oral health diseases in rural communities.
