About The Author
The author was born in Komenda, but brought up by his maternal grandmother in the small town of Dominase in the Komenda traditional area of the Central Region of Ghana. From very humble beginnings at Dominase Local Authority Primary and the Dominase / Aburansah Middle Schools, he passed the Common Entrance Examinations and attended Adisadel College in Cape Coast. he continued to the 6th Form at the then Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (TECH) in Kumasi.
In 1966, in his first year at the School of Pharmacy (TECH), Ishmael obtained a 6-Year Colombo Plan Scholarship to study Dentistry in Canada. After his Dental Surgery degree, he completed a Master's program in Dental Public Health at the University of Toronto and lived and worked in Canada until 1997, when he saw the need to return to Ghana to take up a teaching position at the newly opened University of Ghana Dental School, where he became the first Head of the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry.
